Talk about accident prone.....
Well, were off to the vets again. This time Niamh was attacked by a fox we think. Alan was walking her on Wednesday afternoon when she shot off through the undergrowth. Alan waited for her and then he heard her scream, yes scream. he crashed through the undergrowth looking for her and finally found her limping and frightened. He managed to walk her home and gave her a bath because she stank to high heaven. She was shaking so much he covered her up. Hence when I walked in I thought she was dead........my heart stopped. But she lifted her head and I could breath again. Alan explained what had happened. I examined her as much as I could and whisked her off to the vets having found several puncture wounds and cuts. She needed antibiotics and painkillers as a minimum. Michael from the Tadworth surgery was excellent. He reassured us that she had gotton off lightly. The fox no doubt had tried to take her down by attacking her belly and had it been successfull Niamh would have been dead from loss of blood. Her poor belly was red raw and she yelped anytime Michael went near her. After a few staples to her side and some medications he pronounced her fit to go home.
To top it all that night, having calmed her down and got her comfortable, she bit me as I went to kiss her good night. She was still so traumatised from the events that I couldn't blame her but it shocked me so much I got upset and had to go outside for a cigarette (and I gave up smoking some time ago!!!) I can only assume that she thought I was going to hurt her so it was self defence and that's what she'll stick to if questioned by the canine assult squad. I can't blame her as I think I would have done the same under the circumstances.
Here are some pictures
